Chris Fennell is experienced in domestic and international consulting, research, engineering, and construction. He has worked to develop the Institute for Building Technology and Safety’s resilience practice. This work included creating IBTS’ Community Resilience Assessment Framework Tool (CRAFT) for small- to medium-sized cities and the launch of a grant sponsored by the Kresge Foundation to investigate social equity issues induced by climate change. He has led resilience forums and workshops at conferences for the International City/County Managers Association, National Association of Counties, and National League of Cities.
In 2004, Chris founded BuildingInsight, a marketing research and strategy consultancy focusing on energy, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility in the global built environment. BuildingInsight is now a wholly owned subsidiary of IBTS.
Mr. Fennell was previously Vice-President of Marketing, Director of Energy Programs, and Director of Economics & Policy Analysis at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center.
He also operated his own design-build firm, focusing on high-performance residential construction, and led domestic and international home-building operations for several production builders.
Chris is a LEED Professional, Home Energy Rater, and Certified Building Official. He received an International M.B.A. from Georgetown University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Union College.
