About this Speaker

Monica Sanders is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware. She also holds faculty appointments at Georgetown University, where she teaches an experiential learning course in Disaster Law and Policy as well as Hazard Economics. Previously, she created and taught a disaster law course on at the Washington and Lee University School of Law. Professor Sanders also served Senior Legal Advisor for International Response and Programs at the American Red Cross, focusing on international disaster response and humanitarian assistance principles. Previously, she was a Senior Committee Counsel for both the House of Representatives and Senate Committees on Homeland Security. She holds advisory board and fellowship roles with Friends of Europe (an international security think tank), the Institute for Building Technology and Safety and the Internet Society of DC. Professor Sanders received her degrees from the University of Miami (B.S.), the Catholic University of America (JD), Harvard Law School Project on Negotiation (Cert.) and University College London (LL.M).
